Union HRD Minister released "India Ranking 2020" for Higher Education Institutions.

Union Minister of Human resource Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' has virtually released the 5th edition of "India Ranking 2020" of Institutions of Higher Educational Institutions on new Delhi .

The ranking  framework evaluates  institutions on five broad generic group of parameters:

  • Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR)   
  • Research and Professional Practice (RP)   
  • Graduation Outcome (GO)                          
  • Outreach and Inclusivity  (OI)                                             
  • Perception (PR0)                                         
The ranking are being announced for India's best universities and institutions in 10 categories namely: 
  1. Overall 
  2. Universities
  3. Engineering
  4. Colleges
  5. Management
  6. Pharmacy
  7. Medical
  8. Dental
  9. Architecture
  10. Law

These ranking acts as:

  • Guide to student for selection of universities based on a set of criteria,
  • Helps universities to improve their performance on various ranking parameters and identify gaps in research and areas of improvement.
  • Instill a competitive spirit amongst institutions to perform better and secure higher rank in international ranking.

About National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF)

This Ranking is released every year since September 2015 by the  Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India (Goi). NIRF has created an institution for ranking universities, engineering, management and pharmacy institutes of the country. Earlier there was no government organization for ranking as only private institution used to issue ranking, Which raised various questions.But now government and private institutions are ranked by the government on the basis of different standards.
